Las Vegas is a collection of very different communities. Here are the four areas I know best.
Located on the western edge of the valley near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Summerlin is one of the most established master planned communities in the Las Vegas Valley. It offers parks, trails, shopping centers, and a wide variety of home styles ranging from townhomes to larger single family homes.
The community features a variety of retail and dining options, well maintained streets, and convenient access to outdoor recreation areas.
Located on the southeast side of the valley, Henderson is a well established community with a suburban character. It offers a range of housing options and continues to grow with new retail, dining, and recreational amenities.
The downtown area has shops and restaurants in close proximity to one another and continues to attract new development. Henderson has seen consistent growth in recent years.
One of the fastest growing areas in the valley, Southwest Las Vegas offers newer homes at a range of price points with convenient access to the 215 Beltway. Its central location provides easy reach to other parts of the valley.
Many newer communities and developments are located in this area, making it a strong option for those interested in newer construction.
North Las Vegas offers a range of housing options at accessible price points and is closer to downtown than many people expect. The area has seen significant new investment in recent years and continues to develop.
It provides convenient access to downtown Las Vegas, the arts district, and major employers throughout the valley.

Real talk — I wish someone had given me this list.
July through August regularly reaches 115°F and above. Budget $200 to $350 per month for electricity from June through September. A car sunshade is essential. Plan for it and you will be completely fine.
Las Vegas locals live in a city that looks nothing like what you see on TV. Most residents go months without visiting the Strip. The real city is suburbs, mountains, and incredible food.
Learn it, love it. It connects Summerlin, Henderson, Southwest Las Vegas, and everything in between. Avoid the I-15 during rush hour.
March through May can bring 40 to 60 mph gusts. Secure your patio furniture or bring it inside during wind advisories.
Monthly fees range from $30 to $250 and above. Always ask about HOA fees and rules before making an offer on a home.
Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, and Mt. Charleston are all within an hour of the city. Las Vegas has a very active outdoor recreation community.
Las Vegas is geographically massive. Choose your neighborhood based on where you will spend most of your time day to day.
